Who’s YOUR Chairman of the Board?

October 20, 2020 by Lynne Hoeksema Leave a Comment

Don’t have one, you say?  I might suggest that we all do.  At least we all should. Let me explain.

I was walking Daisy this week per usual and received the added blessing of running into one of my favorite people and more importantly, Daisy’s favorite person. She also just happens to sit on the board of directors for my ministry, Be a Blessing to Your Grieving Friend.

It was talks just like the one we had this day that led me, two years ago, to ask her to join me in this ministry, and I’m so grateful she said yes! Depending on how much time either of us has, our talks can be quite varied…and long!

This particular morning, we did cover a pretty wide spectrum of topics. One of my recent, and recurring challenges, is technology!  I’ve written about this black technology hole I live in multiple times in the past and let me just say, I’m apparently not getting any smarter.

As you may know, I’m working on an online course that I hope to offer sometime in the next few months and of course it comes with “stuff” I have no idea how to do.  So I was sharing with my friend what my latest roadblock was and how I had been struggling for the past week or so with this particular issue.

We batted the idea around for a bit, but didn’t come up with any clear solution. To which my friend wisely commented, “Well, at least you have the smartest Person on your board of directors.”  Bingo!  She’s exactly right!

How many times haven’t I said that this is God’s ministry and I’m just trying to keep up – and follow his guidance. But to think of him as the Chairman of it all, helped me see God AND this momentary snafu in a completely different light.  Of course, God has all the answers and will either lead me to them or to someone who has an answer – or he’ll make me wait as he teaches me patience and perseverance.

Unlike many Chairmen, God isn’t in that position because of the great pay, or to fulfill a civic duty, or to get a great addition to his resumé.  He’s Chairman because he is God.  It’s his rightful place.

What about you? What role does God take in YOUR life? Is he in charge of it all? Or do you only call upon him in times of trouble and you’ve run out of ideas?  Like I sometimes tend to do.

There’s no greater comfort or peace than that of knowing that every single day of our lives until we leave this earth is under his sovereign power and grace. And to know he also loves us deeper than we can imagine, with an everlasting love brings those two “God characteristics” into perfect harmony.

Someone who loves us perfectly will craft the perfect will for our lives. We can’t mess that up despite our best efforts! May that knowledge help you through whatever challenges face you this week. Trust the Chairman of your life.

“I know that you can do all things,

and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”

Job 42:2
