Here is a list of some books and devotionals that have been an encouragement for me. I hope you will find them helpful as well! If you’re interested, you may purchase them through the Amazon link.
“What Grieving People Wish You Knew about What Really Helps (and What Really Hurts)” by Nancy Guthrie
One of the first books I read as the ministry began to take shape. While our losses are very different, our experiences had much in common.
“Heaven” by Randy Alcorn
A book that I have read multiple times and continue to be blessed and enlightened by. It’s an amazing, comforting, biblical look at what’s ahead for believers.
“If God is Good, Faith in the Midst of Suffering and Evil” by Randy Alcorn
Another great read from one of my favorite authors. A book that will challenge your thinking about how to reconcile trials with a good God.
“Walking with God through Pain and Suffering” by Timothy Keller
This great read by Timothy Keller just “happened” to show up in my Book Bub deals of the day – at a time when I sorely needed this wisdom! A deep look into how to see God working through our difficult times.
“The Hurt & the Healer” by Andrew Farley and Bart Millard
I’m a huge fan of the Christian singing group, MercyMe and their lead singer, Bart Millard. One of my daily devotions referenced a book he co-wrote with Andrew Farley. Some very unique insights into the ways God can heal our hurts. For a little extra insight, here’s the song by the same title.
“Streams in the Desert” Devotional
A gift from a dear friend, this devotional continues to challenge me daily and provide deep insights into the journey through this desert.
“A Parent’s Worst Nightmare: Can You Still Trust God after Losing a Child?” by Thom Vines
The author is a fellow Pella, IA native, currently living in Texas. He shares candidly about the tragic loss of his 18-year-old twin daughter, and his faith journey through this trial.
“Tear Soup” by Pat Schweibert and Chuck DeKlyen
This is a sweet, almost child-like book, written about the grief process. Extremely insightful, and on a level that could be used to help a child as well. Beautifully illustrated.
